Supporting a Planning Application

Worcester College, Oxford

The Brief

The Oxford University colleges are world renowned for their academic achievements, impressive architecture and beautiful gardens. Worcester College were seeking permission to build a new contemporary building on their historic site and appointed me to analyse and assess their landscape, and provide a report to support their planning application.

My design

Local Planning Authorities increasingly require detailed information to support planning applications for development of important sites. The gardens and landscape at Worcester College have a rich history dating back to medieval times. A Historic Garden Character Analysis was produced along with a Visual Impact Assessment and a Townscape Character Analysis. Due to the proposed development’s location, next to Grade 1 Listed buildings, English Heritage also required thorough analysis of the views to the ‘Heritage Assets’.
